Earth Rated creates thoughtfully designed dog products. They’re most famous for their green dog poop bags, but the brand is much bigger than that. The team wanted their blog to help introduce people to everything Earth Rated stands for.
But when they came to us, their blog had low traffic, so it wasn’t achieving their brand goals. Two main obstacles stood in the way of their growth:

Earth Rated saw significant organic growth across key performance areas following the launch of Flywheel’s implementation plan.
1. Blog traffic grew by +153% YoY in January.
This was followed by a +149% increase in February (from 3,254 in February 2024 to 8,099 in February 2025), and +128% growth in December.
2. First-page keyword rankings increased by +151%.
They rose from less than 1,000 in February 2024 to four digits in February 2025.
3. French-language sessions up +280% YoY.
Following a mid-November 2024 update to the hreflang tags, visibility of French language content dramatically improved. From December to February, French-language sessions saw an average increase of +314% in visibility compared to the previous year.
We addressed our challenge in 3 steps:
We developed a content strategy that focused on building their site’s topic-specific authority and pursuing high-value keywords. We set the initial vision with their brand team, and then each month, briefed their writers on exactly what they needed to write to rank.

Every month, we reviewed which articles won new rankings and which articles didn’t. We’d create strategies to improve articles that could rank higher, and doubled down on what worked.
This meant our content strategy was a living, breathing, constantly evolving document of the year. It was refined by the data we received, instead of living as a set piece to be blindly followed.
We run a technical “obstacle analysis” for all SEO clients: a comprehensive audit with a focus on issues that are holding the site back from ranking. When running the audit for Earth Rated, we found an issue with their hreflang tags: the metadata that communicates to Google the language of a page. Google couldn’t tell which pages were in English or French, and why there seemed to be duplicate content between them. We implemented the correct tags, improving performance on both the French and English sites.
